Let’s start by busting a common myth that many hold: The person you interview with usually does not have complete autonomy on the compensation package offered for the position. Unless you are interviewing with a small organization and are speaking with the owner personally, the hiring manager has been provided a budget and they are held accountable for staying within the confines of that budget. This fact sometimes gives applicants pause and a first impulse may be to undersell your value to get the job. Such a balancing act!
